about Radha Yoga Centres
Radha Yoga Centres are based on the teachings of Swami Sivananda Radha. She started the first centre in Calgary in 1982 in response to her guru’s instructions to establish many centres of Light.
Courses focus on developing character and quality in life. Yoga is more than a physical discipline. It encourages the process of expanding awareness, developing concentration, and bringing what we learn into our daily lives.
“You can be what you are. Just find out what you are. Ask yourself, ‘who am I? Where do I want to go? What do I want to make out of this life?’”
- Swami Radha
We offer effective yoga practices–including self-inquiry, mantra, dreams, Kundalini, Hatha Yoga and sacred dance-because they have been so helpful in our own lives. As teachers we are actively involved in ongoing self-development and return frequently to Yasodhara Ashram for renewal, updating and support. More about our practices.
Radha Yoga Centres provide a spiritual community in the city. Taking a class facilitates meeting others of like mind, who are seeking deeper values in life. In this setting, people can draw together and find common ground–not by thinking the same way–but by thinking deeply and supporting each other in their pursuit of what is meaningful.
We are committed to yoga as selfless service. Class fees are used not only to help sustain our own work, but also to support the Young Adult Program at Yasodhara Ashram. We give back to the larger community through volunteering and fund-raising for local charities.
“It is a privilege to serve those who seek the most High.”
- Swami Radha
Swami Radha intuitively wanted to keep classes small at the Radha Yoga Centres so that people could receive individual attention. Rather than building up the Ashram into a large institution, she felt the Radha Yoga Centres could help people stay in touch with their ideals while living in the world.
Weekly classes keep the process of self-inquiry alive, while Satsangs build community and encourage devotion.
“Devotion and sincerity is what will carry you.”
- Swami Radha
